Vibrating Beam

A system for distributed parameters analysis and control

Vibrating Beam

The Vibrating Beam System (VBS) is a tool for demonstartion of structural deformations. In engineering mechanics, analyzing how a beam vibrates is essential to prevent structural failures in bridges, buildings, and aircraft.
The VBS consists of a flexible beam restrained on one side. Two positioning rails parallel to the resting beam house the measurement and execution elements. On one rail there are two electromagnetic actuators and on the other a distance sensor with a drive system. Each of the two actuators is mounted on a sliding carriage equipped with an arresting clamp and a guide. In addition, the electromagnetic actuator can be positioned at the desired distance from the beam. Thus, the user obtains a fully configurable system, which he adapts to his research needs. The controlled electromagnetic actuators pull the beam in their direction. The positioning of the laser sensor allows control tasks to be carried out with or without sensor co-location mode. The sensor co-location mode allows direct control of the beam deformation.
